My Thoughts:
This swoon-worthy lightly forbidden sports romance introduces us to a new series by new-to-MM Romance authors Maya Nicole and Britt Andrews and they really hit it right off the park with this one.
I devoured this book in one sitting. I was not sure what to expect since both authors are new to me, but once I started reading, I couldn't put the book down.
The storytelling was engaging, you get to know each character, their woes and story at a really good pace. It got hot and intense right off the bat (heh, see what I did there?) but it tapered down. We watch Kalen and Monroe develop a friendship and eventually unable to resist their strong chemistry.
The best part about this book is the humor that caught me off guard. I was cry laughing in some parts, snort laughing in another part. I love the delicate balance between a well-timed sass, or an incredulous unintentionally-funny inner monologue in the middle of an emotional scene. These moments make the characters feel so fleshed out and they became so relatable because we have also been in those situations -- the ones you know where you're not supposed to laugh, it's supposed to be serious but something WTF-worthy happens.
I also love that it wasn't an insta-resolution to both of the MCs heartbreak. There was a bit of angst, but it was not overdrawn. Again, just the right amount of balance.
The only thing that made me tilt my head and squint my eyes was the storyline involving Nikki, which was pivotal to Kalen and Monroe's relationship. It felt like she was used and left that part unacknowledged, unaddressed and resolved off the pages. It niggled but didn't take away the experience of the whole story because as a reader, I do understand the circumstances.
Maya and Britt's seamless writing style in this book are notable too. It's very smooth transitioning from one character voice to the other.
I adore both Kalen and Monroe, they've become one of those book couples that's going on my favorite list. You know when a book is awesome? It's when you don't want it to end, it's when you want more. I'm pretty sure you'll want more after you read this.
My Rating:

The call never came.
So, I did what any major league hopeful reject would do: I went to the bar to escape my reality.
When I locked gazes with a pair of gorgeous blue eyes, I knew the night was going to be anything but normal.
Especially since I’d never been with a man.
One night of passion left me questioning everything. It was supposed to be a random hookup but when I walked into my summer school course there he was, standing at the front of the room.
My professor.
Will Monroe catch me, or will he strike out?
Catching Kalen is a contemporary standalone full-length gay romance. Contains adult situations and language. There are brief scenes and references to parental/spousal physical and emotional abuse.
A small portion of this novel was previously featured in the Lookin’ for Mr. Right anthology
