My Thoughts:
I dig sports romance, specially hockey romance. It sounds weird because I don't know much about hockey until I started reading mm hockey romance. So whenever I see a new book that's about hockey, I make sure to check it out.
Keeping Hope is a sports romance book, but most of all, it's a book that really makes a reader keep hoping for good things to turn out for Jensen. This guy, good-hearted, stubborn but also so determined not to hide his sexuality but was hiding a lot of other things which are also part of him and his story. In a way, he still was hiding. I felt so bad for his character. All down on his luck but so determined to make it through. I felt like it would have been a bit different for him, if he could just swallow a bit of that pride and take the stubborn streak down a peg and accept help from his family when he was at his lowest point in this book. I think most of the angst in this book was coming from him. The struggle was real and sometimes, unnecessary.
Law, another good and honorable guy, was also struggling but his struggle wasn't as angsty as Jensen. He came through a lot for Jensen. I adore Law's refusal to hide what he is but also not giving a crap about what other people think.
The romance part of this story was the slow burn kind. Much of the early parts of the book was establishing each character and the secondary characters and their stories. The attraction was already there, but so was the caution.
It sometimes felt like there is too much going on in this book. But I think that's because most of the secondary characters had their stories to tell too. But because of this, it felt like the connection for Jensen and Law sometimes felt missing.
All in all, it's a good sports romance book. It's full of hope, truly.
