My Thoughts:

I've been on a Lee Colgin binge read lately and I must say I really enjoy her books! The ones I've read so far have been low angst, steamy paranormal/fantasy reads.

I got lucky to get a copy of an ARC of Mongrel. I'm not ashamed to admit, the book cover totally did it for me. It's one of those covers that makes me want to grab the book and read it. I have a bad habit of not reading blurbs, so some of my spur of the moment book downloads have been because of book covers and as an author, I'm sure that's a plus.

In the book "Mongrel", Lee takes us on an adventure set in Hungary. led by a conscientious vampire and a unique kind of werewolf, he retains his fur, tail and ears when he transforms to his human form, and because of this, he's been ostracized from his pack. Always looking from the outside in.

Andras got my heart hurting while I was reading this story. The poor guy whose heart is so pure has been lonely and starved for things (like affection & touch) a pack member shouldn't have. Despite all of that, Andras spirit remain hopeful. He has love and respect for the elder, Ava, who raised him and has dreams of having a better life than what he has with his current pack.

Bowie was the ticket to that better life outside of the pack long-term plan that Andras has. Bowie came to the pack looking for their best tracker. Something has been going on in the village: young girls going missing. Bowie cares too much, he wants the girls returned to their families.

This story is also a bit of historical fiction romance. There's geographical references and even a character referenced in this book that's based on a true horrible character, so be sure to read the author's notes in the end of the story.

I find Mongrel unique and endearing. Bowie and Andras are the most unlikely couple, but they are so perfect for each other. I enjoy reading the characters' relationship evolution, from reluctant allies to being friends to being attracted and realizing that whoa! it must be love. Because of Andras' background, his process was different, a bit sad, but also so adorable as he fumbles his way to this newfound feelings.

I'm hoping that this is a series and that we'll see more of them in the next books. There are a few aspects that I had hoped would be on page, like Andras' truly leaving the pack with Ava. What of Bowie's and Andras' different life spans? Will Andras claim Bowie? Does that even work? Will the pack alpha cause fuss and problems with Andras leaving? So many questions...

I recommend this to readers who love low angst, steamy, paranormal romance. Andras is unique, he'll have you loving him after the first chapter!

Five stars for the vampire and the werewolf who deserve their happily ever after.

My Ratings: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

blurb:

Mongrel, a creature more wolf than man, leads a lonely life on the fringes of pack society—until the night a handsome vampire shows up with a mysterious request.

Bowie, a vampire cursed to a life of endless nights, maintains close ties with his human family. When young girls in their village go missing, he must act quickly. But to find them, he’ll need to convince the local werewolf pack to loan him their best tracker—a wolf known as the Mongrel.

Though he hates the slur, Andras is used to being called Mongrel. When Bowie refuses to refer to him by anything but his given name, Andras can’t help a flicker of unexpected trust toward the stranger. He volunteers to help Bowie, risking banishment.

Can two tenderhearted men overcome their traumatic pasts and work together to rescue the girls before it’s too late? Or will the world’s most prolific killer snuff the flames of their passion along with the lives of the captives?

This steamy love story spans the country of Hungary as Andras and Bowie journey through cities and wilderness on their quest to right a villain’s wicked wrongs. Mongrel features a sweetly possessive werewolf, a cinnamon roll of a vampire, and the worst killer in history. A surprisingly fluffy MM Paranormal/Historical Romance considering the subject matter.

HEA guaranteed with loads of laughs along the way and no cliffhanger ending!

mongrel will be out on November 18, 2021
